Challenges of childhood burden of cystic fibrosis

By Nazish Nazki and Richa Nagpal

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that causes problems with breathing and digestion. CF affects about 35,000 people in the United States, with nearly half aged less than 18 years.

Approximately half of the US patients with CF are covered by publicly funded programs for people with low incomes.

In this study, we summarize the prevalence and healthcare resource utilization arising from CF using the Milliman MedInsight CCHG (Chronic Condition Hierarchical Grouper). MedInsight’s CCHG is a population-based health tool that identifies cost drivers and utilization trends in chronic conditions, enabling effective analysis of spending and utilization across any population.
